Church Mission

The Parish of St. Winifred is a worshipping community within the Diocese of Pittsburgh, rooted in the religious tradition of the universal Roman Catholic Church. In recognition of our unique, familial foundation, we as a community intend to give witness to, enhance, and embody the presence of Jesus Christ in the daily lives of those within the Parish and those beyond its boundaries. We strive to do this especially through our celebration of the sacred liturgy and prayer; through our programs, activities, and educational endeavors; through our efforts to aid and console those in need; through shared responsibility; and, through our relationships within our families and among one other.

"Where two or three are gathered....there am I" (Mt. 18:20)

Seven Churches Visit

Immediately following the Holy Thursday celebration of the Lord's Last Supper at 7:00 p.m., our parish is planning to participate in a visit to seven cheuches.  Traditionally, people visit seven churches and spend a short time in prayer and adoration at each one.  The number seven comes from the seven major churches in Rome.  If you are interested in joining our parish on this pilgrimage, please call the Rectory.

JUNQUE SALE

The 40th Annual St. Winifred Junque Sale will take place on Friday, April 9, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Donations are needed.  We cannot accept clothing and books.  Please call or stop at the Rectory Office for instructions where to drop off your donations.  Volunteers are needed to sort and price Monday through Thursday, April 5-8, and to sell the articles Friday and Saturday.  Please call Jeanne Allen at 412-882-3466 to volunteer.

LENT AND MUSIC

Now that we are in the Lenten season, I am reminded of a dear parishioner who would comment to me, "You can always tell when we change seasons here at St. Winifred."  By that she referred to the different ways we celebrate our liturgies - remaining seated to start Mass, using a common Gathering Song done in a simple way, using the piano more often, having an emphasis on silent prayer - all ways that allow us to begin the season with a new vision.  We all know that the Alleluia "disappears" during Lent, returning triumphantly for the great Easter Vigil.  And I believe it comes back stronger than ever!

Stations Plus

For the third year we invite everyone for Stations Plus. Every Firday in Lent we offer you to pray and mediate through the Stations of the Cross. However specific on  March 12, 19 and 26 – there will be Stations “Plus” with presenter Father James Gretz.  He will lead us through a discussion and explanation of the meaning of The Triduum - Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday Vigil.
